At the end of last year, the attention of many devotees of the Internet, innovation and new media was focused on LeWeb3 ’07. Organized by Loïc Lemeur in Paris, this edition featured many high-profile speakers, presented new trends and offered a terrific party. This feature reports on a number of interesting matters to catch my attention. Rather than highlight separate sessions, it seemed much more interesting to me to report according to theme. Looking back, this is particularly appropriate as several key ideas kept recurring in the various sessions.

Now back in The Netherlands I’m staffed on a project in The Hague. That’s quite a difference from Hamburg… yes, the “glamorous” traveling life that I once had is no more. No more early Monday mornings to catch my flight and taxi trips to the office, just the old fashion public transportation. It actually takes me about an hour to get from my home to the office; to be precise 2 buses and 1 train.

In mijn vorige post heb ik de ontwikkelingen op het gebied van offshore locaties beschreven. Ik merkte hierbij op dat de meer ‘volwassen’ locaties (zoals bijvoorbeeld India) zich meer kunnen gaan richten op de complexere bedrijfsprocessen. De nieuwe ‘onervaren’ locaties kunnen zich dan primair richten op de simpele, puur transactionele, processen.

In dit artikel wil ik deze gedachte verder uitdiepen door in detail in te gaan op de verschillende Finance & Accounting activiteiten die worden geoutsourced. Ik zal hierbij stilstaan bij de activiteiten die in het verleden werden uitbesteed en op de huidige trends en ontwikkelingen. Mastercard is currently discussing the introduction of PayPass in The Netherlands. This card works with an RFID tag and is already in use in various countries, including the US, where it was introduced in 2003, and the UK, France, Switzerland and Turkey.

PayPass can be part of your credit card or bank card, but it’s also possible to make it part of your mobile phone (and this is fun, according to customers at a C1000 supermarket). And PayPass would be perfect for small payments, and thus a direct competitor (or replacement) of the Chipknip (the chip that is visible on your bankcard and requires contact to be used). lees verder…

Binnen de Accenture Delivery Centers bestaat al sinds een paar jaar een sterke focus op het standaardiseren en industrialiseren van processen vanuit een eenduidige basis: People. De mens/persoon staat centraal. Het is al duidelijk zichtbaar dat binnen de 48 Centers een eenduidige werkwijze en identieke kwaliteitsstempels worden gehanteerd waarover wordt gecommuniceerd in een eigen Accenture taal.

Een Nederlandse hogeschool heeft ter voorbereiding op het eigen strategisch plan scenario’s 2020 geschetst. Hoe ziet de wereld er in 2020 uit en op welke manier kan de school hier met haar beleid al een voorschot op nemen? 

Een hele creatieve excercitie die leidde tot vier scenario’s die zijn uitgewerkt in kranten met een inhoud die aansloot bij de scenario’s. De kranten nemen je mee op een toekomstreis naar 2020. Absoluut iets dat je aan het denken zet. lees verder…

Een van de meest interessante elementen van het werken voor de overheid is voor mij het ervaren van het spanningsveld tussen politiek en bestuur.

Wanneer is een bewindspersoon verantwoordelijk voor de uitvoering van beleid en wanneer de hoogste ambtenaar?  Hoe kan het dat daar waar het ‘misloopt’ de minister hoe dan ook de schuldige is en hij daar voor moet boeten? Bijvoorbeeld het aftreden van de ministers Dekker en Donner naar aanleiding van het onderzoeksrapport naar de Schipholbrand. Waarom is dit de politiek verantwoordelijke bewindspersoon en niet de persoon die feitelijk verantwoordelijkheid had moeten dragen? lees verder…

As Procurement Outsourcing is said to be a promising area for companies to increase their margin by lowering their procurement costs and increasing savings, one of the first questions that comes to mind is payback time. Similar caliber projects usually require heavy investments in staff and in technology before the benefits can be reaped. The Net Present Value calculations however provide sufficient certainty to decision makers to embark on such projects. But what about outsourcing deals? And procurement outsourcing in particular? De eerste grote BPO centers op nearshore locatie waren gevestigd in Ierland. Niet lang daarna volgden landen als India en China als geschikte offshorelocaties - zij hebben snel een groot deel van de markt veroverd.
