High Performance Business 09 research launched

Joost de Haas and Shikko Nijland (Strategy Consulting NL) just launched the High Performance Business 09 research: Winning in the downturn – How AEX companies are positioned for the upturn. A great research report is the outcome, having used the methodology of the Accenture Institute for High Performance for a local relevant study.

In 2008, Accenture published a report entitled Building on High Performance that showed that none of the companies listed in the AEX index ranks as a High Performance Business—a fact that was reflected in the overall underperformance of the AEX compared to other major indices.

Europe needs a coordinated renewables framework

Waxman Markey may not be perfect and it has yet to pass the Senate, but its passage through the House does move the US closer to a more robust climate change policy. Meanwhile, what of European policy? Europe has always seen itself in the vanguard of introducing renewable energy. However, analysis we have recently completed shows how a lack of a Europe wide framework for renewables is holding the EU back. Read more…

Working with World Economic Forum on Smart Grids

Interest in smart grids has intensified in recent days. In addition to the $4.5bn of public money the US Government has put behind the infrastructure, the passing of the Waxman Markey bill in the House promises more support, which has at least satisfied some of the demands of the GridWise Alliance. But encouraging smart grid investment remains a challenge. This week we have published a report with the World Economic Forum exploring how to accelerate smart grid investments. Read more…

Entering the era of mass-fragmentation

Consumers are increasingly watching television content on multiple platforms, contributing to the fragmentation of the traditional viewing experience. This is the main outcome of Accenture’s second annual Global Broadcast Consumer Survey.

Accenture interviewed 13,600 consumers across 13 countries, including five countries in Asia for their views on digital content delivery. The result is a truly global perspective into the way consumers’ behavior and preferences are continuing to change under the impact of a rapidly-expanding choice of media options. Read more…

Zuidas Run 2009: despite the rain the start of a tradition

We had a few beautiful weeks in Amsterdam. Clear blue sky, sun and, consequently, full terraces across town. So you’re organizing the Zuidas Run and dotting the ‘i’s these warm days and naturally think, if only…….

So of course it rained on this important Sunday morning, the first bad weather in weeks.Throughout the Zuidas area, on the Gustav Mahlerplein and around the WTC area, the 2,000 runners took cover and for the most part did their warm ups inside the office buildings, usually crowded with suits, skirts and ties.

For running, this weather was great though. Not too hot, with lots of oxygen in the air there were Read more…

Adrew Keen: Web 2.0 is dead

Yesterday evening I was again present in the home of Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten, as a guest of the Next Web Salon. Also present, next to the usual suspects Patrick de Laive and Arjen Schat, was Andrew Keen.

In his first book,  Andrew makes mash potatoes of all driving forces behind 2.0: pro-am, citizen journalism, long tail, power to the masses. And he still does.
Yesterday, he claimed Web 2.0 was dead and looked towards the next big things. He loves Twitter, because it takes away the anonymity and there’s a natural selection process on following and followers. I still fail to see the big difference though Read more…

Cascale Media: old habits die hard

I received an interesting newletter yesterday from iMedia Connection. The subject 10 ways to boost the value of your corporate blog naturally had some strong conversion power over me. Opening it shows a contraproductive banner for Casale media. At least, for me.

I always thought they were quite on top of things, with various media innovations and good presence on events like LeWeb3. Maybe they should inform their ad agency as well that you don’t control the places people see your brand online. You don’t have this control, you don’t own the communication funnel. You are a player in the larger communication landscape, just as your target audience is. Casale Media: old habits die hard.

Customer-centric dentist

I was at the dentist this morning for a regular check-up. Imagine my surprise when I leaned back and all of a sudden was watching RTL Vandaag on a television screen above my head. Appearantly, things are changing at one of the least customer-centric environments.

Dentists in the Netherlands do not like people, much less customers. It is an unfortunate necessity to have them, to survive, but the sooner they’re out the door the better, with their filthy teeth. They don’t listen, don’t brush enough and don’t see they’re teeth as the most precious thing on earth. Horrible.

This is at least the feeling you get once you step inside. I’m not even talking about the fact that they might be the only profession where people pay to get tortured. I am talking about the unattractive interior design with cartoons and other posters only the dentist herself finds funny. About the radio which is on during a session, on a station that the dentist likes, not the customer. On the unintelligent reservation system, that only has the best interest of the dentist in mind (including impossible hours for the working class). Health 2.0, anyone?

And then there was the television. I could not change the channel, or switch to any other medium, but it’s a start. Let’s see what next step they’ve taken in 6 months.
