Our New Skills to Succeed TV spot

To promote our Skills to Succeed initiative, Accenture launched a TV spot, which is airing currently in the United States during the Accenture Match Play Championship (February 23-27). The commercial highlights our ‘Skills to Succeed’ commitment by showcasing initiatives in four markets: Brazil (with Conexão); South Africa (with Enablis); India (with Dr. Reddy’s Foundation); and the United States (with Genesys Works). As you’ll see, the documentary-style video features both Accenture and non-Accenture people, including those helped though our initiatives.

The goal of our Skills to Succeed program is to equip 250,000 people around the world with the skills to get a job or build a business by 2015. The Skills to Succeed program has 80 local initiatives, which you can read more about on our global Skills to Succeed section on Accenture.com.

Is this ‘sustainability’ in 2011….?

In the kick-off entry of my blog at the start of the year I promised to ‘share’ my customer experiences…the ‘good ones’ and the ‘not so good ones’.  This week I had what I like to call a “what are they doing…?” moment which falls under the category of ‘not so good ones’.

I received, via the snail mail, a letter from my internet service provider; an organization that has access to my email address.  This organization sent me a letter to inform me that the price of my monthly fee would be increasing by €0,05. After reading the letter twice, I concluded that I was reading it correctly and that this was actually happening. Read more…

Ik RFP, jij RFP’t, wij RFP’en

Zoals eerder gezegd zit ik helemaal in het midden van alle commotie rondom een RFP. Dat zijn altijd intensieve periodes, waarin in een zeer korte tijd heel veel moet gebeuren. Er is voor dit RFP zelfs een team van collega’s uit India en de Filippijnen overgekomen om hun expertise in te zetten in de beantwoording ervan. Het is goed om dit te begrijpen als een new joiner, omdat je waarschijnlijk al snel betrokken zult worden in een RFP-traject, net zoals 4 andere analisten die (on and off) meewerken in dit traject.

Accenture’s History: establishing competitive advantage in software and standardizing procedures

In the previous post about Accenture’s history, I discussed how Accenture (then Andersen) became a global company in the late 1950’s. This global growth did necessitate to review Andersen’s business model and strategic partnerships, as the example of the work Andersen performed for Mars illustrated.

These strategic reassesments and the subsequent changes to Andersen’s business model, eventually paved the way for the creation of the Administrative Services Division, the forerunner of what would become Accenture. The story of Accenture continues with the early footprints of this Administrative Services Division.

Een nieuw project

Het voelt soms alsof de tijd vliegt. Ook voor mij zijn de afgelopen weken weer ontzettend hard gegaan. Een van de oorzaken was dat ik op een nieuw project ben gaan werken. Ik zal in dit stukje vertellen hoe deze overgang is verlopen.
In januari liep mijn toenmalige project ten einde. Doorgaans is het de laatste weken van een project hard werken om alles af te ronden en deadlines te halen. In mijn geval kwam er nog bij dat ik meteen de week erna al aan de slag kon op een nieuw project. Read more…

Customer Analytics as a driver for growth and high performance

In my last blog post I wrote about the research Accenture did among 400 senior executives responsible for the marketing function at large enterprises. In this research, 65% of the executives mentioned the customer analytics capability as one that is critical to their marketing strategy – more than any other capability. Many were planning to increase investment in the coming years in such areas as customer data management (41%), customer segmentation & insight (41%), and analyzing market and customer trends (38%).

What’s next for social media?

Going through my Tweetdeck columns it all of a sudden hit me I had been missing the very amusing tweets of Paul Carr lately. He is a writer for TechCrunch who has his second book coming out shortly and was always an active social media participant, through mainly Twitter and Facebook. The first step in my search led to an empty Twitter account. Moving along, a post on TechCrunch explained the whole story: he quit Facebook, Linkedin, Foursquare, Blippy, Yammer, Dopplr and ended with Twitter. Paul Carr is off the sauce. Read more…

Accenture’s history: becoming a global player

Time to pick up where we left off in the last post about the corporate history of Accenture, the period in which Andersen became a global player: the late 1950’s. A short recap, we ended with how Joe Glickauf came to define Andersen’s Administrative Services Division, a division which ultimately would go on to become Accenture.

Coming of Age: Global Roots
One day in 1957, an angry Forrest Mars, son of the founder of the Mars confectionary empire, came storming into Spacek’s Chicago office complaining about the service Andersen was providing his company in London. At the time, Andersen had affiliations with a few organizations to provide client service outside the United States. Spacek traveled to London to personally investigate the situation. Besides canceling Andersen’s affiliation with Turquand, Youngs, one of the oldest accounting firms in London, Spacek resolved to build Andersen’s own network of offices in Europe.
By the late 1950s, promising nationals had been recruited as the first generation of European leadership to guide the small but growing London, Paris and Madrid offices. This laid the foundation for the core value known today as One Global Network.

“We are ‘one firm,’ and that is why we are different from everyone else,” Martin Vandersteen, an early European leader, said. “Everyone has a separate British firm and an American firm and a French firm…and it struck me as being the source of enormous competitive advantage.”

Het nieuwe werken

Het nieuwe werken is een fenomeen dat veel media-aandacht krijgt en de hedendaagse techniek maakt het ook mogelijk om een andere werkstijl te hebben dan die er enkele tientallen jaren geleden was. Bedenk alleen al dat toen nog niemand een mobiele telefoon had, Internet nog niet bestond en dus ook niemand email had. En zo zijn er nog vele andere technologieën die toen nog niet bestonden.

This is my face, validate me…

A few weeks ago I was engaging in a friendly debate with the Accenture Global Service Transformation lead, Chris Allen.  We were having a feisty conversation about channels!  Specifically the impact the smart phone has had on the service industry to date and the even greater impact we predict it shall have in the future.  At the time we breezed over the topic of mobile payments and went straight into the aspect of video.  Yes, what if the customer expects to ‘see’ the agent they are talking to…?  This is a challenge apart that I will discuss in a future blog (HR managers are now warned to review the company dress code policies).
