Our Community

How a Dutch recruiting event ended up in Zambia

Sharing our skills and knowledge with NGO’s, foundations and donor organizations to increase their impact on society is the heart of Accenture’s Corporate Citizenship program. By investing time and skills for one day up to a year as a part of their career, our employees get the chance to broaden their horizon while contributing to society. For this project 2 Accenture consultants and 180 Dutch students invested their time in supporting Plan with a challenge in their daily operations in Zambia.

The combination of Accenture’s challenge to recruit Beta students and invest time and skills to support Plan to reach their target is a great example of how Corporate Citizenship becomes part of our DNA. The principles of corporate social responsibility are fundamental to our character and the way we run our business. With this approach we help charities and non-profit organizations reach their goals, in the same manner as we help regular clients in achieving high performance.

World Environment Day 2011: Environmental Highlights in the Netherlands

June 5 was World Environment Day (WED), an annual event which Accenture commemorates each year aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. WED has grown to become one of the main vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.

In alignment with its slogan every year, everywhere, everone; WED is also a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations.

Highlights

Corporate citizenship is fundamental to Accenture’s character and the way we run our business; it is reflected in the actions of our people. We work to make a sustainable difference in the long-term vibrancy and vitality of people and communities around the world. This year WED highlighted the different initiatives Accenture established in the Netherlands over the last year:

Our New Skills to Succeed TV spot

To promote our Skills to Succeed initiative, Accenture launched a TV spot, which is airing currently in the United States during the Accenture Match Play Championship (February 23-27). The commercial highlights our ‘Skills to Succeed’ commitment by showcasing initiatives in four markets: Brazil (with Conexão); South Africa (with Enablis); India (with Dr. Reddy’s Foundation); and the United States (with Genesys Works). As you’ll see, the documentary-style video features both Accenture and non-Accenture people, including those helped though our initiatives.

The goal of our Skills to Succeed program is to equip 250,000 people around the world with the skills to get a job or build a business by 2015. The Skills to Succeed program has 80 local initiatives, which you can read more about on our global Skills to Succeed section on Accenture.com.

Is this ‘sustainability’ in 2011….?

In the kick-off entry of my blog at the start of the year I promised to ‘share’ my customer experiences…the ‘good ones’ and the ‘not so good ones’.  This week I had what I like to call a “what are they doing…?” moment which falls under the category of ‘not so good ones’.

I received, via the snail mail, a letter from my internet service provider; an organization that has access to my email address.  This organization sent me a letter to inform me that the price of my monthly fee would be increasing by €0,05. After reading the letter twice, I concluded that I was reading it correctly and that this was actually happening. Read more…

WOUGNET update

With reference to the blog posted by Tamarah Krant on September 6th this is an update of our project at WOUGNET. Written by Karlijn van Lammeren.

As we speak, we have already arrived safely back home. We have been working at the Accenture office for a few days already and have been communicating since with our colleagues in Kampala via Skype and mail.

Next to the amazing, beautiful, inspiring experiences as Tamarah shared with us about the Ugandan life, I will elaborate on our work at the WOUGNET office in Kampala. Read more…

Accenture & Wougnet, Uganda

On September 1st, after two weeks of preparations, Accenture colleagues Karlijn van Lammeren, Peter Wegbrands, Hans Dorrestijn and me left for Kampala, the capital of Uganda, where we will be working on a collaboration initiative between the Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET), Hivos and Accenture.

What is this project really about?

As a freshly started analyst at Accenture I was eager and set to start on a first Health & Public Service project. Then I received a call about a Corporate Citizenship project in Uganda.

Read more on this blog about our team’s experiences working in Uganda, which, believe me, is an amazing adventure! Read more…
