#CSS2011: 250+ tweets strong!

On the 26th of May Accenture sponsored, in conjunction with TeleTrain, the first annual Customer Service Seminar.  The theme this year was to investigate and discuss the impact of new social media platforms on organizations and their interactions with the customers.

The day began with an introduction to the demanding and selective customers of today combined with a poll of the room to see how ’social’ the audience members were.  After the short introduction the participants were in agreement to the challenge their organizations face and were ready with their smart phones to start filling up the Twitter fountain.  The day flew by as all 8 speakers provided their view on the challenge of today, and those challenges that are likely to arise.  Key ideas shared by the presenters are; Read more…

Social marketing in professional services

There is a lot of room for progress in marketing and digital social media in the the professional services industry. Strange, because here the human connection is what counts. For an accountant, lawyer and management consultant, this ‘new way of communicating’ should be a logical extension of business as usual.

Adrew Keen: Web 2.0 is dead

Yesterday evening I was again present in the home of Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten, as a guest of the Next Web Salon. Also present, next to the usual suspects Patrick de Laive and Arjen Schat, was Andrew Keen.

In his first book,  Andrew makes mash potatoes of all driving forces behind 2.0: pro-am, citizen journalism, long tail, power to the masses. And he still does.
Yesterday, he claimed Web 2.0 was dead and looked towards the next big things. He loves Twitter, because it takes away the anonymity and there’s a natural selection process on following and followers. I still fail to see the big difference though Read more…

Cascale Media: old habits die hard

I received an interesting newletter yesterday from iMedia Connection. The subject 10 ways to boost the value of your corporate blog naturally had some strong conversion power over me. Opening it shows a contraproductive banner for Casale media. At least, for me.

I always thought they were quite on top of things, with various media innovations and good presence on events like LeWeb3. Maybe they should inform their ad agency as well that you don’t control the places people see your brand online. You don’t have this control, you don’t own the communication funnel. You are a player in the larger communication landscape, just as your target audience is. Casale Media: old habits die hard.

Customer-centric dentist

I was at the dentist this morning for a regular check-up. Imagine my surprise when I leaned back and all of a sudden was watching RTL Vandaag on a television screen above my head. Appearantly, things are changing at one of the least customer-centric environments.

Dentists in the Netherlands do not like people, much less customers. It is an unfortunate necessity to have them, to survive, but the sooner they’re out the door the better, with their filthy teeth. They don’t listen, don’t brush enough and don’t see they’re teeth as the most precious thing on earth. Horrible.

This is at least the feeling you get once you step inside. I’m not even talking about the fact that they might be the only profession where people pay to get tortured. I am talking about the unattractive interior design with cartoons and other posters only the dentist herself finds funny. About the radio which is on during a session, on a station that the dentist likes, not the customer. On the unintelligent reservation system, that only has the best interest of the dentist in mind (including impossible hours for the working class). Health 2.0, anyone?

And then there was the television. I could not change the channel, or switch to any other medium, but it’s a start. Let’s see what next step they’ve taken in 6 months.
